Why Are Motorcycle Collisions Often More Dangerous for Riders?
Motorcycles provide less physical protection than passenger vehicles, increasing the risk of serious injury in a collision. Riders are more exposed to roadway conditions, nearby traffic, and the forces created during a vehicle impact.
Road design, visibility, traffic patterns, and driver awareness can all affect motorcycle safety. Curves, intersections, and areas with changing traffic levels may require extra attention from everyone using the road. Motorcycles can also be harder to notice because of their smaller size compared with larger vehicles. Maintaining safe distances, checking carefully before turning, and allowing riders enough space can help reduce risks. As motorcycle traffic increases during warmer months, awareness from both drivers and riders becomes especially important for preventing dangerous roadway encounters.
