Why Intersections Are High-Risk Areas for Motorcyclists
Intersections are among the most dangerous parts of the roadway for motorcycle riders because vehicles are often turning, crossing lanes, or changing direction within a short distance. Drivers may also have difficulty spotting motorcycles due to their smaller size, especially during early morning traffic periods.
Motorcycle collisions at intersections can lead to severe harm because riders have limited physical protection during a roadway impact. Factors such as signal timing, visibility, vehicle speed, and turning movements are commonly reviewed after these crashes occur. Busy urban corridors with multiple lanes and heavy commuter traffic may further increase the likelihood of serious collisions involving motorcycles and passenger cars.
