Sheridan, MO (August 31, 2026) – A Winterset, Iowa man died Saturday afternoon, August 29, in a chain-reaction crash involving four motorcycles on eastbound MO-46 at Route F, three miles east of Sheridan, according to a state crash report. The riders were traveling together when one motorcycle slowed to turn left onto Route F.
The lead rider failed to notice the slowing motorcycle and swerved left to avoid it, striking the bike anyway. His motorcycle then overturned, throwing him from the vehicle. A third motorcycle following behind struck the overturned bike and also overturned, throwing its rider. A fourth rider, attempting to avoid the wreckage, then struck the ejected first rider.
The first rider, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene. The third rider, 47, of Bedford, Iowa, was taken by ambulance to Mosaic Maryville with moderate injuries. None of the four riders were wearing helmets.
Worth County EMS, Sheridan Fire, and Grant City Fire assisted with the response. Next of kin have been notified. Our condolences go out to the rider’s family and loved ones.
