Sacramento, CA (May 27, 2026) – A motorcyclist died Monday evening after a hit-and-run collision involving a blue sedan in south Sacramento. The fatal crash happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Power Inn Road and Florin Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Investigators said the suspected vehicle had been traveling southbound on Power Inn Road before turning westbound onto Florin Road. CHP stated the driver then used a turnout area to make an illegal U-turn onto eastbound Florin Road and turned directly in front of the motorcycle.
The rider was unable to stop in time and struck the passenger side of the sedan. The motorcyclist, identified only as a man, later died while being taken to a hospital.
Authorities said video footage from the area showed the suspect vehicle was a blue four-door sedan with damage to the passenger side and a deployed passenger-side air bag. The driver reportedly fled southbound on Power Inn Road after the collision.
Investigators continue searching for the vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run wreck. Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends.
Why Illegal U-Turns Can Lead to Serious Motorcycle Crashes
Illegal U-turns on busy roads can create dangerous situations because approaching drivers and riders may not have enough time to react. Motorcycles are especially vulnerable during sudden turning movements because they are smaller and harder to spot than larger vehicles, particularly at intersections with multiple lanes and changing traffic patterns.
Investigators reviewing motorcycle crashes often examine roadway markings, visibility, traffic signals, and vehicle positioning to determine how the vehicles came together. Injuries involving motorcycles are often severe because riders lack the structural protection found in passenger vehicles. Hit-and-run cases may also rely heavily on surveillance footage, witness statements, and vehicle debris left behind on the roadway.
