Why Pedestrian Crashes on Busy City Roads Can Be Deadly
Pedestrian crashes along major urban roads often result in severe injuries because vehicles may be traveling at moderate to high speeds with limited time to stop. Roads carrying steady traffic volumes can become especially dangerous at night when visibility is reduced for both drivers and pedestrians.
Investigators reviewing these collisions commonly examine roadway lighting, crosswalk placement, traffic speed, and driver visibility. They may also study whether the pedestrian was crossing within a marked crossing area or walking near active traffic lanes. Road closures are frequently necessary after fatal crashes so investigators can document evidence and safely examine the roadway before traffic resumes.
