Why Multi-Vehicle Big Rig Crashes Often Lead to Severe Damage
Crashes involving large commercial trucks can be especially dangerous due to the size and weight differences between big rigs and passenger vehicles. On busy highways, a single impact involving a tractor-trailer can trigger a chain reaction affecting several nearby vehicles within seconds.
Investigators reviewing these crashes often examine vehicle speed, lane changes, braking distances, and driver actions before and after contact occurred. Highway off-ramps can also increase risks because traffic patterns frequently change as vehicles merge, slow down, or exit. When a driver leaves the scene after a fatal collision, investigators may rely on witness statements, surveillance footage, and physical evidence from the roadway to reconstruct what happened.
