Sacramento, CA (June 16, 2026) – A fatal motorcycle crash caused major traffic disruptions on Tuesday morning on Interstate 80 eastbound just east of Norwood Avenue in Sacramento.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch records, the collision was reported at approximately 7:41 a.m. on June 16 along eastbound I-80 about one-half mile east of Norwood Avenue. Initial reports indicated a motorcycle was involved in a collision with an unidentified sedan.
Authorities at the scene reported that the motorcycle rider did not appear to slow before the crash. Emergency responders, including fire personnel and CHP officers, arrived to find the motorcycle down in the roadway. The severity of the incident prompted additional emergency resources to respond.
The crash was investigated as a fatal collision, and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene. Officials later coordinated with the coroner regarding arrival times as the investigation continued.
Several eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 were blocked for an extended period, resulting in a SigAlert and significant traffic delays. Motorists were advised to use Interstate 5 or U.S. Highway 50 as alternate routes while crews worked at the scene. The affected lanes remained closed as investigators documented evidence and arranged for vehicle removal.
