What Factors Are Usually Reviewed After a Center-Line Crossing Crash?
When a vehicle crosses the center line of a roadway, investigators typically examine several factors to determine the possible cause of the movement. Roadway conditions, driver actions, visibility, and vehicle performance are among the details commonly reviewed.
On two-lane highways, center-line crossings can be especially dangerous because they may place vehicles directly into the path of oncoming traffic. When this occurs, the risk of severe injuries or fatalities increases due to the combined force of vehicles traveling in opposite directions.
Investigators often study physical evidence such as tire marks, vehicle damage, and final resting positions. They may also review witness statements and roadway characteristics, including curves, grades, and lane markings. Together, these details help establish a timeline and provide a clearer picture of how a serious multi-vehicle collision unfolded.
