Baltimore, MD (July 16, 2026) – A motorcyclist was killed early in a three-vehicle crash on northbound I-95 near Russell St in Baltimore. The collision occurred shortly before 7 a.m. on Monday, July 13.

The rider of a blue Suzuki motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of a silver Hyundai sedan and a white Chevrolet SUV, the other two vehicles involved in the wreck, were not hurt.

No identity for the motorcyclist has been released at the time of this report. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Our deepest condolences go out to the rider’s family and all those who knew them.

What Are the Survival Odds for Motorcyclists in Multi-Vehicle Highway Crashes?

Motorcyclists involved in crashes with multiple passenger vehicles face significantly worse survival odds than the occupants of those vehicles. The fundamental asymmetry in protection, a rider exposed to the open road versus drivers surrounded by steel, airbags, and crumple zones, means that even a moderate collision can deliver fatal force to a motorcycle rider while leaving the other drivers unharmed. This pattern appears repeatedly in crash data and is reflected in the disproportionate fatality rate among riders compared to other road users.

Highway crashes involving motorcycles unfold differently from those on surface streets. At interstate speeds, the time available to react to a developing situation is measured in fractions of a second, and the energy involved in any contact between vehicles is substantially greater. A motorcycle caught between or struck by two larger vehicles has almost no path to a survivable outcome, as the forces come from multiple directions with nothing to absorb them.

The section of I-95 near Russell St in Baltimore is a heavily traveled urban stretch of interstate that carries a dense mix of commercial and passenger traffic during the morning commute. Riders navigating this corridor must contend with frequent lane changes, merging vehicles, and varying speeds across multiple lanes, all at highway pace. Even an experienced rider operating carefully has limited ability to control what happens when the vehicles around them make sudden or unexpected movements.
