East Haven, CT (June 23, 2026) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured on Sunday night, June 21, after an accident involving a pickup truck in East Haven. The crash happened at 8:56 p.m. at the intersection of Hemingway Avenue and Dodge Avenue.
Police said the motorcyclist was traveling south on Hemingway Avenue through the intersection. At the same time, a pickup truck was traveling north and began turning left onto Dodge Avenue.
The motorcycle and pickup were then involved in a collision, and the rider was ejected. The motorcyclist was treated at the scene before being taken to Yale New Haven Hospital.
Police said the rider had serious injuries and remained in the intensive care unit. The first report did not release the motorcyclist’s name, age, or any details about the pickup driver.
The wreck remains under review as investigators continue examining the sequence of events. We are keeping the injured rider in our thoughts and hope they receive steady care during recovery.
Why Left-Turn Motorcycle Crashes Can Be Severe
Left-turn crashes involving motorcycles can be especially dangerous because riders have less protection than people inside larger vehicles. When a vehicle turns across an intersection, there may be only a short time for either driver to react.
Visibility can also be a concern. Motorcycles are smaller than cars and trucks, and they may be harder to see at night or near headlights, signs, and other traffic.
Serious injuries can happen when a rider is thrown from a motorcycle. Hospital care may focus on the head, chest, back, and internal trauma, even if the full extent of harm is not clear right away. After these crashes, investigators often review traffic signals, turning movement, lighting, and vehicle positions.
