Bremer County, IA (June 23, 2026) – One person died, and another was injured after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 near the 224-mile marker in Bremer County on Sunday evening.
The crash happened at approximately 7:34 p.m. A preliminary review found that an eastbound 2017 Nissan Rogue crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2025 Chevy Equinox head-on.
The Nissan driver, identified as 50-year-old Tracy Geraldine Leytem of Cedar Rapids, was taken to MercyOne Hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The Equinox driver, 23-year-old Abby Hamann of Grundy Center, was taken to MercyOne Hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the wreck remains active as more details are reviewed.
