Oroville, CA (June 23, 2026) – Multiple people were injured in a major rollover crash on Sunday evening near Lumpkin Rd in Oroville, according to dispatch records.

The crash was reported at approximately 6:13 p.m. on June 21 near 1301 Lumpkin Rd, in front of the Gold Flake Saloon. Initial information indicated that five people were involved in the rollover.

Emergency units arriving at the roadway located a vehicle approximately 30 feet down a hillside behind the business. Dispatch records indicated that two people were found beneath the vehicle, with one person conscious and breathing after being pulled free. Search efforts continued for additional occupants because investigators were initially unable to determine whether four or five people had been inside the vehicle.

A fire crew conducted a grid search of the surrounding hillside while rescue teams worked to reach the vehicle. One person at the roadway reportedly declined to provide information to investigators. Additional details regarding the identities of those involved and the extent of injuries were not immediately available. Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances that led to the rollover.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected as they recover from their injuries.

What Challenges Bring a Vehicle Rollover Down an Embankment?

Rollover crashes that send vehicles down embankments create complex rescue situations. Steep terrain, limited access, and unstable vehicle positions can make it more difficult for crews to reach occupants safely. These conditions may also increase the time required to locate everyone involved.

When a vehicle leaves the roadway and comes to rest on a hillside, responders establish search zones to ensure no occupants have been thrown from the vehicle or wandered away after the crash. Visibility issues, vegetation, and uneven ground can complicate these efforts, especially during evening hours.

Investigators reviewing this type of accident frequently examine roadway conditions, vehicle movement, occupant locations, and physical evidence from the surrounding terrain. Information gathered during these reviews can help determine how the vehicle left the roadway and why the rollover occurred.
