Kansas City, KS (August 18, 2026) – A motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Monday, August 17, near the Interstate 70 and Interstate 635 interchange in Kansas City.

The collision was reported at approximately 12:38 p.m. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2026 Yamaha motorcycle passed a Hyundai SUV on I-70. The Hyundai then swerved to the right and struck the motorcycle.

The impact caused the motorcycle rider to lose control. The motorcycle struck the right guardrail before coming to rest on the right shoulder of the off-ramp to northbound I-635. The Hyundai driver left the scene following the crash.

The rider, identified as 32-year-old Jordan G. Collumbus of Kansas City, Kansas, was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital with serious injuries. Additional details about the suspect vehicle or driver were not immediately available.

We hope the injured rider makes a full and speedy recovery.

How Are Hit-and-Run Motorcycles Crashes Investigated?

Hit-and-run crashes can be challenging to investigate when the suspected driver leaves before authorities can obtain a statement or inspect the vehicle. Investigators may rely on witnesses, roadway evidence, surveillance footage, and descriptions of the suspect vehicle to identify the driver.

In motorcycle collisions, investigators can also examine the motorcycle’s final resting position, guardrail damage, debris, and other evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events. Information about the other vehicle’s movements may help establish how the collision occurred.

As investigators gather additional evidence, they may be able to determine the identity of the vehicle and driver involved and establish the circumstances that led to the crash.
