Frequently Asked Questions
Why do semi-trucks need so much distance to stop?
Loaded semis weigh many times more than a passenger car, and that extra weight means their brakes need much more distance to bring the truck to a stop, especially at highway speeds.
What makes crashes between cars and trucks more severe than typical car crashes?
The size and weight difference between a semi and a passenger vehicle means the car and its occupants usually absorb most of the force in a collision, which tends to produce more serious injuries.
What is an underride crash?
An underride crash happens when a smaller vehicle slides partially or fully beneath a truck's trailer during a collision, which can cause severe damage to the upper part of the car and its occupants.
