Frequently Asked Questions
Do rollovers happen more on some roads than others?
Rollovers tend to happen more on roads with higher speeds, sharp curves, or intersections where vehicles cross paths at an angle, since a hard side impact can push a car onto its side or roof.
What injuries typically result from a rollover crash?
Occupants can suffer head, neck and spinal injuries, broken bones, and internal injuries, especially if they are thrown against the roof or doors during the roll.
What usually causes a vehicle to roll over?
A rollover commonly follows a sharp turn, a side impact from another vehicle, or a loss of control that causes a car to trip over a curb, median or soft shoulder.
Why are rollover crashes considered especially risky?
A rollover can change direction and orientation more than once in seconds, which raises the chance of occupants being thrown inside the vehicle or ejected if they aren't properly restrained.
