Corona, CA (September 7, 2026) – A multi-vehicle collision blocked several westbound lanes of State Route 91 near Serfas Club Drive early Saturday, September 5. Initial calls began around 5:41 a.m., with vehicles reported sideways and obstructing traffic.
Dispatch notes described a Honda Civic, work van, Acura sedan, and at least one additional vehicle among those involved. By 6:10 a.m., lanes one through four were reported blocked, and multiple tow trucks were requested.
Medical assistance was also sent to the freeway.
One entry indicated that the driver of a maroon Acura had been drinking, but the record did not establish alcohol as the cause of the accident. The roadway was reported clear by about 6:43 a.m.
Investigators continue reviewing the crash. We hope anyone hurt recovers fully.
Why Can Multi-Vehicle Freeway Collisions Block So Many Lanes?
When several vehicles come together at freeway speeds, they may stop at different angles instead of remaining within a single travel lane. Disabled cars, scattered debris, and people outside their vehicles can quickly make neighboring lanes unsafe to use.
Tow trucks and emergency units also need working space around damaged vehicles. A vehicle facing sideways may require more room to reposition and remove than one stopped parallel to traffic, extending the portion of roadway that must remain closed.
Heavy morning traffic can make these disruptions spread quickly. Drivers approaching stopped traffic may need to merge across several lanes while speeds fall sharply. Once the roadway is cleared, backups can persist until the accumulated traffic gradually moves through the affected stretch.
