Los Angeles, CA (July 4, 2026) – A multi-vehicle collision temporarily shut down all eastbound lanes of State Route 60 just west of Lorena Street in Los Angeles early Saturday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, the crash was reported at approximately 3:23 a.m. Initial reports indicated a gray Honda Accord and another vehicle were involved in a collision that blocked all eastbound lanes. A vehicle reportedly spun out before coming to rest in the roadway.
As the incident unfolded, another vehicle struck one of the disabled vehicles, increasing the number of vehicles involved to at least three. Responding officers later observed one vehicle facing the wrong direction in the No. 2 lane, while another came to rest on the right shoulder.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded after the incident was upgraded to require an ambulance response. CHP temporarily stopped all eastbound traffic at Lorena Street while emergency crews worked at the scene. A tow truck was requested to remove at least one damaged vehicle from the freeway.
Authorities have not released information regarding injuries or identified those involved. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
We hope anyone injured in the crash makes a full and speedy recovery.
Secondary Collisions Can Increase the Severity of Freeway Crashes
Vehicles disabled in active freeway lanes present a serious hazard, particularly during overnight hours when visibility may be reduced. Secondary collisions can occur when approaching motorists are unable to stop or safely maneuver around stalled or damaged vehicles.
Following these incidents, emergency responders focus on protecting the crash scene, assisting those involved, and restoring traffic flow as quickly as possible. Investigators typically review roadway evidence, vehicle damage, witness statements, and traffic conditions to determine the sequence of events and identify the factors that contributed to both the initial and any subsequent collisions.
