Los Angeles, CA (June 12, 2026) – A multi-vehicle accident on southbound I-405 near Ventura Blvd in Los Angeles, California, left at least one person in pain, with airbags deployed in at least one vehicle.
The wreck involved three or more vehicles, including a white Nissan Rogue, a black sedan, a white compact sedan, and a dark-colored vehicle. A party in a white van reported no injuries but confirmed possible involvement of two to three additional vehicles. At one point, two vehicles were holding the HOV lane while others were moved to the right shoulder, with a total of up to four vehicles confirmed as involved approximately 300 feet ahead of the initial stopping point.
All vehicles were eventually cleared to the right shoulder. One vehicle was later taken off the freeway at Skirball Park and Ride, and two tow trucks were called to assist.
No names, ages, or further details about those hurt were included in the initial report on the collision. What caused the crash is still under review, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
We hope the person seen in pain received prompt attention and is on the mend.
What Typically Happens When Airbags Deploy in a Freeway Crash in California?
Airbag deployment is a strong indicator that a vehicle experienced a significant jolt during a crash. Most modern airbag systems are designed to activate when sensors detect a collision force above a certain threshold, typically equivalent to hitting a solid wall at around 8 to 14 miles per hour or more. When airbags go off, it usually means the people inside were exposed to enough force to warrant that level of protection.
Even when a person appears to be unhurt after a crash where airbags deployed, medical evaluation is still advisable. The deployment itself can cause minor burns or bruising from the bag’s rapid inflation, and some internal injuries from the collision may not show up immediately. Chest, neck, and head discomfort are common complaints in the hours following such a crash.
On busy freeways like I-405, crashes involving multiple vehicles and deployed airbags can slow traffic significantly, since emergency units need time to assess each person and safely manage the road.
