Why Entrapment Can Complicate Vehicle Crash Responses
Entrapment occurs when a vehicle occupant cannot exit the vehicle on their own due to damage to the vehicle or its position after impact. These situations require specialized techniques to safely remove occupants while minimizing the risk of further injury.
Crashes involving significant vehicle damage can also leave debris scattered across travel lanes, creating additional hazards for other motorists. Road closures are frequently necessary to allow emergency personnel to assist occupants and secure the roadway.
Investigators reviewing these collisions typically examine vehicle damage, roadway conditions, and the positions of the vehicles after the crash. These factors can help determine how the collision occurred and why the occupants experienced the reported level of injury.
