Racine, WI (June 8, 2026) – The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office confirmed several people were injured in a six-vehicle crash that shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 94 between STH 11 in Racine and STH 195 near First Street.
The accident occurred on Sunday, June 7. Traffic cameras from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation showed multiple vehicles with heavy damage along the interstate. Emergency units remained at the roadway for several hours while crews assisted those involved and investigators examined the crash site.
Officials said the freeway closure caused major traffic delays in the area before all lanes were later reopened.
Authorities have not yet released the exact number of injured individuals or what led to the multi-vehicle wreck.

Why Multi-Vehicle Interstate Crashes Cause Major Delays
Crashes involving several vehicles on busy interstates can quickly lead to significant traffic disruptions. When multiple lanes become blocked, emergency crews need additional time and space to assist injured people, remove damaged vehicles, and clear debris from the roadway.
Highway crashes may also trigger chain-reaction impacts because vehicles traveling at interstate speeds often have limited time to stop safely. Heavy traffic, sudden braking, and reduced visibility can increase the chances of additional collisions nearby.
Safety experts encourage drivers to maintain safe following distances and reduce speed during heavy traffic conditions. Remaining alert and avoiding sudden lane changes can help lower the risk of large multi-vehicle crashes on crowded highways.
