Crystal Lake, IL (May 22, 2026) – Multiple people were hurt on Thursday afternoon, May 21, after a two-vehicle accident in Crystal Lake.
The collision was reported at about 3:18 p.m. at Sands Road and Northwest Highway. Emergency units were already at the site when command requested three ambulances.
Initial reports noted moderate to heavy damage after the wreck.
The cause remains under review as more details are confirmed. We hope everyone injured receives the care and support needed during recovery.
Why Two-Vehicle Accidents Can Lead to Several Injuries
Two-vehicle accidents can injure more than one person, especially when both vehicles are occupied by drivers or passengers. The force of contact may affect people differently depending on seating position, seat belt use, vehicle size, and the location of the damage. Some people may have visible trauma, while others may report pain after the first evaluation.
When several ambulances are requested, medical teams may need to check multiple patients at once. They may look for injuries to the head, neck, back, chest, arms, or legs. Moderate to heavy damage can also make it harder to quickly assess people. Road design, traffic flow, speed, visibility, and vehicle positions can later help explain how the vehicles came together and why several people needed medical attention.
