Bull Valley, IL (May 22, 2026) – A worker was seriously hurt on Thursday morning, May 21, after falling about 40 feet from a tree at a residence in Bull Valley.
The accident happened around 10:12 a.m. in the 200 block of Cold Springs Road. Dispatchers initially reported that the patient was unconscious, prompting a medical helicopter to be placed on standby.
Emergency units found the adult man conscious but dealing with several traumatic injuries. He had been performing tree removal work on the property when he fell to the ground.
The worker was taken by ambulance to the helipad at Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital. From there, a medical helicopter flew him to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, a Level 1 trauma center.
The circumstances behind the fall remain under review as more details are confirmed. We hope the injured worker receives steady care and support during recovery.
Why Tree Removal Falls Can Cause Serious Trauma
Tree removal work can be dangerous because workers may work at heights while using ropes, saws, ladders, or climbing gear. A fall from a tall tree can cause serious injury because the body may hit branches, equipment, or the ground with significant force.
Medical teams often check for head, spine, chest, hip, leg, and arm injuries after a long-distance fall. A person may be awake after the fall but still have hidden trauma that requires advanced hospital care. Air medical flights may be used when a trauma center is farther away or when faster treatment is needed. Height, landing surface, protective gear, and the work being done can all help explain how severe the harm may be.
