Hopewell, NY (July 27, 2026) – A 43-year-old Naples man was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital after running a stop sign and colliding with another vehicle at County Road 4 and Freshour Road in Hopewell on Saturday morning, July 25, according to Ontario County deputies. He was driving north on Freshour Road around 8:10 a.m. when he failed to stop, striking a car driven by a 30-year-old Geneva man heading east on County Road 4.
Both vehicles left the roadway and came to rest in a nearby yard. The Geneva man’s car rolled over but ended upright; he was treated for minor injuries and released. The Naples man was listed in stable condition.
The roadway was closed for more than three hours during the investigation before reopening. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed.

Why Are Rollovers That End Upright Still Taken Seriously?
A vehicle that rolls over and lands back on its wheels can look deceptively fine from the outside, but the forces involved during a rollover don’t disappear just because the vehicle ends upright. Occupants can still experience significant jolts and shifts in momentum throughout the roll, even if the exterior damage looks limited afterward.
Investigators typically still document damage carefully, checking the frame, suspension, and airbags for signs of stress that aren’t always visible at first glance. A vehicle that rolled, even briefly, is considered a total loss once it’s inspected, regardless of how it looks sitting upright.
Medical evaluation after any rollover is treated the same way, since occupants can experience whiplash, bruising, or other injuries that take time to fully present. Being able to walk away immediately doesn’t rule out injuries that might only become clear in the hours or days that follow.
