New Castle County, DE (January 13, 2026) – A crash involving injuries caused significant delays on January 12 along Route 1 northbound, just before Tybouts Corner and the Route 13 split. The incident occurred during the morning commute and initially blocked two of the three travel lanes.
According to reports, the crash led to severe traffic congestion, with backups stretching toward Route 72 and impacting alternate routes, including Route 7. Emergency responders arrived on scene to assist those injured, although the number of individuals hurt and the severity of their injuries have not yet been confirmed.
By 9:15 a.m., a second lane was reopened, helping to ease the backlog of vehicles. The scene was fully cleared by 9:30 a.m., allowing normal traffic flow to resume.
The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) monitored the situation and urged drivers to use caution in the area.
