RHOME, Wise County, Texas, Oct. 20, 2026 — Three vehicles were involved in a crash on FM-407 Tuesday afternoon, October 20, that authorities say grew out of a road rage incident, with one person flown to a hospital with serious injuries.
The Wise County Sheriff's Office was first dispatched around 4:07 p.m. to a report of a reckless driver and possible road rage incident along FM-407. A deputy arriving on scene found a crash west of Galena Street with injuries reported, according to the account relayed by responding agencies.
New Fairview Fire Department and Wise County EMS crews were sent to the scene. Medic-4 found two vehicles with major damage, one of which had left the roadway and struck a telephone pole, with a person reportedly trapped inside. A third vehicle was also involved.
PHI Med-10 later flew a man with serious injuries to a hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Wise County EMS Chief Randall Preuninger said.
Wise County Crime Scene investigators were called in to process the area, which kept FM-407 closed for several hours and caused delays nearby. The road reopened and the scene was cleared by 7:09 p.m. The Wise County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, New Fairview Fire Department and multiple EMS units responded.
The collision remains under investigation. We wish those injured a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are most common in car accidents like this one?
Multi-vehicle crashes often cause broken bones, head and neck injuries, and internal injuries, especially when a vehicle leaves the road and strikes a fixed object like a pole.
What usually causes crashes tied to road rage or aggressive driving?
These incidents often start with tailgating, sudden lane changes, or an escalating dispute between drivers, which can lead to reckless maneuvers and collisions.
Does speed make these crashes worse?
Yes. Higher speeds mean more force on impact and less time for drivers to react, which tends to increase the severity of injuries and vehicle damage.
