New Iberia, LA (January 30, 2026) – A devastating two-vehicle collision on LA Hwy 674 near Cherri Ln in Iberia Parish claimed the life of 18-year-old Jailon Rhine of Jeanerette and left another driver seriously injured. The crash occurred just before midnight on January 28 and is currently under investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop I.
According to preliminary findings, Rhine was driving a 2013 Cadillac XTS eastbound when his vehicle collided head-on with a westbound 2015 Ford F-350. Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash.
Rhine sustained severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Ford also suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized for further treatment. Authorities have not released the identity of the second driver.
Standard toxicology samples were collected from both individuals as part of the ongoing investigation, which aims to determine what factors contributed to the tragic impact.
Troopers remained on scene for several hours after the collision, managing traffic and documenting evidence. LA Hwy 674 was partially blocked while emergency services worked to treat victims and clear the wreckage.
