New Orleans, LA (January 11, 2026) – A 52-year-old woman was transported to University Medical Center following a vehicle collision near Canal St on Saturday morning. The crash resulted in a serious leg injury and prompted trauma team activation based on the provider’s judgment.
The woman was riding in an older model steel-frame pickup truck that was struck on the rear passenger side. The force of the impact was strong enough to dislodge a tire and bend the truck’s frame by nearly ten inches. Emergency personnel noted the likely high-velocity nature of the crash.
She suffered an open fracture to her left ankle and reported diffuse abdominal tenderness. Although trauma activation was not initially triggered by a mechanism alone, her history, including a prior splenic injury, prompted medics to request activation due to clinical concerns.
At the time of transport, the patient was alert and oriented, with stable vital signs. She was administered pain management and was expected to arrive at the trauma bay within minutes for further evaluation and care.
Traffic in the surrounding area was temporarily impacted, and the condition of other involved parties, if any, has not yet been confirmed. Investigators will likely assess the cause of the collision and whether speed or visibility played a role.
We send our best wishes to the injured woman for a strong and swift recovery.
