Frequently Asked Questions
Who has the right of way at a crosswalk or intersection?
In New Jersey, pedestrians generally have the right of way in marked and unmarked crosswalks at intersections, but all road users are expected to use caution, especially at night or in low-visibility conditions.
What injuries are most common in pedestrian crashes?
Pedestrians struck by vehicles often suffer head and spinal injuries, broken bones, and internal injuries. Because there is little to protect a person outside a vehicle, even lower-speed crashes can cause serious harm.

Anyone involved in or who witnesses a pedestrian crash should contact police right away and seek medical evaluation, even if injuries aren't immediately obvious.
