What Is Commonly Reviewed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crashes?
Hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians are often investigated through roadway evidence, witness statements, and surveillance footage. Investigators typically examine the location of impact, debris left behind, and traffic patterns in the area at the time of the crash.
On major highways and turnpikes, lighting conditions and vehicle speed are also commonly reviewed. Damage to a suspect vehicle, if later located, can help investigators match evidence from the scene.
Pedestrian positioning and movement before the collision may also be examined as officials work to reconstruct the incident. In many cases, investigators rely on nearby traffic cameras and public tips to identify the driver involved.
