Nighttime Pedestrian Accidents Can Bring Added Visibility Risks
Pedestrian accidents after dark can be especially dangerous because visibility is frequently reduced. Drivers may have less time to see someone near the roadway, especially on busy streets with turning traffic, headlights, and shadows.
People walking near travel lanes may also be harder to spot when lighting is limited or when vehicles are moving at steady speeds. Dark clothing, road glare, and nearby intersections can make it more difficult for drivers to recognize a hazard quickly.
A pickup truck can cause serious harm to someone on foot because the pedestrian has no protection during contact. After a serious nighttime pedestrian accident, reviews usually focus on lighting, lane position, vehicle speed, traffic flow, and where the pedestrian was before being hit.
