What Is Typically Examined After a Vehicle Leaves the Roadway?
When a vehicle leaves the roadway and strikes fixed objects such as signs or trees, several factors are often reviewed. Road conditions, lighting, and visibility at the time of the crash can provide helpful context. Investigators may also look at the vehicle’s path and the area where it came to rest.
Single-vehicle crashes sometimes involve sudden medical emergencies, mechanical issues, or driver distraction. The presence of curves, narrow shoulders, or roadside obstacles can increase the risk of severe damage when a vehicle departs from its lane.
Damage patterns to the vehicle and surrounding property are also considered. These details can help piece together how and why the vehicle left the roadway before impact.
