North Las Vegas, NV (May 3, 2026) – A tragic crash involving a speeding vehicle left one teenage girl dead and another woman critically injured Saturday afternoon in North Las Vegas.
According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, officers responded around 3:41 p.m. to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash near the intersection of West Craig Road and Simmons Street. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a chaotic scene involving multiple vehicles and pedestrians.
Preliminary investigations indicate a 2020 BMW X3 was traveling northbound on Simmons Street at a high rate of speed, reportedly weaving through traffic and passing other vehicles. As it approached Craig Road, the BMW collided with a 2021 Kia Optima that was making a left turn.
Following the initial impact, the BMW continued forward, lost control, and veered off the roadway. The vehicle struck a utility pole, landscaping, and a wall before hitting two pedestrians on the sidewalk.
A 17-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. A 19-year-old woman sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities reported that the driver of the Kia was not injured, and a juvenile passenger inside the BMW was also unharmed.
Police said the 32-year-old driver of the BMW showed signs of impairment. A blood draw was conducted, and the driver was later taken into custody. He faces multiple charges, including reckless driving resulting in death, reckless driving causing substantial bodily harm, child endangerment, and driving without a valid license.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation.

How Does Speed and Impairment Increase the Severity of Pedestrian Crashes?
Crashes involving excessive speed and possible impairment are among the most dangerous types of roadway incidents. High speeds reduce a driver’s ability to react to changing conditions and significantly increase the force of impact during a collision.
When pedestrians are involved, the consequences can be especially severe. Unlike occupants of vehicles, pedestrians have no protection, making them highly vulnerable to serious or fatal injuries even at moderate speeds.
Impairment—whether due to alcohol or other substances—can further reduce reaction time, impair judgment, and increase risky behaviors such as weaving through traffic or ignoring traffic signals. These factors combined can quickly turn a traffic situation into a devastating event.
Drivers are urged to follow speed limits, remain attentive, and never operate a vehicle while impaired to help prevent tragedies like this.
