Oakland Park, FL (January 16, 2026) – A major crash involving seven vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, sent four people to the hospital on Thursday morning and caused major delays along the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Commercial Boulevard.
The accident occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m., prompting an emergency response from Florida Highway Patrol and Oakland Park Fire Rescue. Authorities say the crash was triggered when a vehicle attempted to change lanes to exit, colliding with an SUV and setting off a chain reaction involving five more vehicles.
Rescue crews transported four individuals to a nearby hospital. According to officials, three of the victims suffered serious injuries, while the fourth was treated for minor injuries.
The severity of the crash forced troopers to close most of the northbound lanes near the exit, leading to significant traffic backups. Traffic cameras showed extensive congestion, with multiple fire rescue vehicles on the shoulder of the highway.
Although the main lanes were reopened after crews cleared the scene, the exit ramp remained closed for a longer period before eventually reopening later in the morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash. Our thoughts are with those injured, and we hope for a smooth and full recovery for each of the victims.
