Marion County, FL (June 23, 2026) – A 62-year-old Ocala motorcyclist lost his life on Monday morning following a collision with a pickup truck at the intersection of County Road 475 and Southeast 178th St in Marion County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. on June 22. Investigators reported that a 71-year-old Summerfield man was driving a pickup truck westbound on Southeast 178th St and had stopped at a stop sign at County Road 475.

Troopers said the pickup driver then made a wide right turn onto County Road 475 and entered the path of a southbound motorcycle operated by a 62-year-old Ocala man. The front of the motorcycle struck the left front portion of the pickup truck, causing the rider to be ejected from the motorcycle.

Emergency responders transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Authorities noted that the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The pickup truck driver was not injured. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased victim during this difficult time.

Motorcycle Safety and Intersection Collision Risks

Intersections remain one of the most common locations for motorcycle crashes because vehicles entering or turning onto roadways must accurately judge the speed and distance of approaching traffic. Motorcycles can be more difficult for drivers to detect due to their smaller profile compared to passenger vehicles.

When a vehicle enters a motorcycle’s travel path, riders have little time or distance available to avoid a collision. These crashes can result in severe injuries because motorcyclists have limited protection during an impact.

Investigators reviewing fatal motorcycle crashes typically examine vehicle movements, roadway conditions, witness statements, and physical evidence from the scene to determine the sequence of events and identify contributing factors.
