Marked Tree, AR (June 30, 2026) – One police officer was killed, and two others were injured in a two-vehicle collision early on Sunday, June 28, at the intersection of Nathan and Broadway streets in Marked Tree.
According to the Arkansas State Police, the wreck happened at about 2:50 a.m. while Officer Anthony Johnson and Officer Trevor Howard were on patrol. Johnson was driving the patrol vehicle, and Howard was a passenger, when another driver reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the police vehicle. The force of the collision caused the patrol unit to overturn.
Officer Howard died from the injuries he received. Officer Johnson was taken to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The driver of the other vehicle was flown to Regional One Health in Memphis for treatment of serious injuries.
