Ohio Co, KY (March 5, 2026) – One person was killed in a crash involving two semi-trucks on Thursday afternoon, March 5, along the Western Kentucky Pkwy near mile marker 67 between the Central City and Beaver Dam exits.
Emergency units responded to the scene shortly before 2:00 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious collision along the parkway. Initial findings indicate that a westbound semi-truck crossed the median into the eastbound lanes and struck another semi head-on.
The driver of the eastbound truck was pronounced dead at the scene. In contrast, the driver of the semi that crossed the median suffered minor injuries and declined additional medical treatment after the crash.
A passenger vehicle in the area sustained minor damage, which authorities believe was caused by debris from the collision. The impact scattered pieces of the trucks across both directions of the parkway and the median.
The roadway was shut down in both directions for several hours while crews cleared the wreckage and investigated the crash. The eastbound lanes were reopened later that evening, followed by the westbound lanes.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
How Median Crossovers Can Lead to Severe Highway Crashes
Median crossovers are among the most dangerous types of highway incidents because they often result in head-on collisions. When a vehicle leaves its lane and crosses the center median, it can enter opposing traffic traveling at highway speeds.
Head-on crashes involving large trucks can cause significant damage due to the weight and size of commercial vehicles. The combined force of two vehicles traveling in opposite directions often leads to serious or fatal injuries.
Highways are typically designed with wide medians, barriers, or rumble strips to help prevent vehicles from crossing into opposing lanes. However, driver error, sudden mechanical issues, or medical emergencies can still cause a vehicle to leave its lane and cross the median.
