Okanogan Co, WA (February 3, 2026) – A woman lost her life following a tragic hit-and-run pedestrian accident Saturday evening along State Route 97 in Okanogan County. The incident occurred at approximately 7:16 p.m. on January 31 in the northbound lanes of SR-97, near the Pateros area.
According to information released by the Washington State Patrol, a vehicle traveling northbound struck the woman while she was in the roadway. After the impact, the driver reportedly continued to a nearby gas station in Pateros to contact emergency services. Shortly afterward, a second vehicle traveling southbound also struck the pedestrian and did not stop at the scene.
Emergency medical services responded to the location and assessed the situation, but the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the severity of her injuries. At this time, her identity has not been released. Officials have not confirmed why the pedestrian was in the northbound lanes when the accident occurred.
The driver of the southbound vehicle involved has not yet been identified, and authorities are continuing efforts to locate that individual. Investigators are also working to determine whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.
