Frequently Asked Questions
What usually causes pedestrian accidents like this one?
Pedestrian crashes commonly happen when a driver fails to yield at a crosswalk, is distracted, or doesn't see a pedestrian in time to stop, especially near schools where children may cross unpredictably.
Does a vehicle's speed matter in pedestrian crashes?
Yes. The faster a vehicle is moving at impact, the less time a driver has to react and the more serious a pedestrian's injuries tend to be.
Where do most pedestrian accidents occur?
Many happen at or near intersections and crosswalks, particularly in areas with heavy foot traffic such as school zones and commercial streets.
Are pedestrian accidents more common at night?
Pedestrian crashes happen frequently after dark or in low-visibility conditions, when drivers have less time to spot someone crossing the street.
