Dryden, NY (August 26, 2026) – One person was airlifted on Monday morning, August 24, after a crash involving a delivery truck and a trailer on Route 13 near Irish Settlement Road. The collision happened at approximately 10:00 a.m.
Deputies said the delivery truck was traveling east on Route 13 while an SUV towing a trailer was heading west. The trailer began to fishtail, crossed the center line, and was struck by the delivery truck.
After the impact, the delivery truck lost control, hit a guardrail, and went off the roadway into a wooded area. The driver was found unconscious and trapped inside the truck.
Emergency crews removed the driver, and he was airlifted to a regional trauma center for treatment. The SUV was not damaged, and the trailer detached during the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

Why Can Trailer Instability Lead to Serious Highway Crashes?
A trailer that begins to sway or fishtail can move outside its lane very quickly, leaving nearby drivers little time to react.
If a trailer crosses the center line, an oncoming vehicle may be forced into a sudden impact or evasive maneuver. Losing control after that first contact can lead to additional hazards such as guardrail strikes, rollovers, or roadway departures.
Trailer condition, tire safety, load balance, towing speed, road conditions, and steering inputs can all affect stability. When a delivery truck or other larger vehicle is involved, the force of the collision and the difficulty of removing a trapped driver can make the emergency response more complex.
