Why Pedestrian Traffic Increases Risk Along Busy Tourist Corridors
Pedestrian traffic near hotels, casinos, and entertainment districts often creates added challenges for both drivers and people crossing the street. Areas with heavy tourism can become crowded at nearly all hours, especially during evening periods when visibility may be lower, and traffic volume remains high.
Large intersections and multiple turning lanes can also make it harder for drivers to notice someone entering a crosswalk or walking near traffic. In busy corridors, distractions from lights, signs, and nearby activity may reduce reaction time for everyone using the roadway.
Pedestrian safety measures such as marked crossings, traffic signals, and reduced speeds are commonly used to lower the chance of serious harm. Even with those measures in place, roadway emergencies involving pedestrians can still lead to severe injuries because people on foot have little physical protection during a vehicle strike.
