Why Crashes Into Buildings Often Cause Severe Injuries
When a vehicle leaves the roadway and strikes a structure, the sudden stop can create significant force for those inside the vehicle. Concrete barriers, walls, and support columns are designed to withstand impact, which can increase injury severity during these crashes.
Investigators often review speed, driver actions, roadway layout, and possible mechanical issues when examining building-related collisions. Damage patterns to both the vehicle and structure can help determine how the crash unfolded.
Commercial areas may also contain protective barriers intended to reduce harm to pedestrians and nearby properties. Even with those safeguards in place, crashes involving fixed objects can still result in serious injuries and extensive property damage.
