How Wet Road Conditions Can Affect Intersection Safety
Wet pavement can reduce tire traction and increase stopping distance, especially at intersections where vehicles may already be slowing, turning, or crossing traffic. Even light moisture on the roadway can make sudden braking or steering more difficult.
Investigators reviewing crashes on wet roads often examine vehicle speed, braking patterns, and visibility conditions leading up to the impact. Tire condition and roadway drainage may also become part of the review process.
Intersections can be particularly hazardous during rainy conditions because drivers must react to crossing traffic while managing reduced control. Evidence from the roadway and vehicle damage patterns helps investigators better understand how the collision unfolded.
