Wheeling, WV (July 15, 2026) – A man died after an apparent bicycle accident along the Heritage Trail near the I-470 bridge in South Wheeling on Saturday, July 11.
Emergency units were called to the trail at about 5:20 p.m. after receiving a report of a medical emergency. After arriving, investigators determined the call involved an apparent bicycle crash. The cyclist was later pronounced dead from the injuries he received.
No public safety concerns remain following the fatal bicycle wreck, and the Heritage Trail has stayed open. No additional details about what led to the bicycle accident were immediately available.
