What Factors Are Examined After a Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash?
A fatal two-vehicle crash can leave investigators with several types of evidence to examine. Vehicle damage, debris, tire marks, and the final positions of the vehicles can help establish how the vehicles moved before and during the collision.
Road design and traffic controls may also be reviewed. Investigators can consider lane markings, signs, visibility, lighting, weather, and pavement conditions.
Witness accounts and available video footage may provide additional information about vehicle movements. Modern vehicles can also contain electronic data that may help establish speed, braking, or other driving activity before a collision.
The identities of people involved may be released later after relatives have been notified. Other details can also emerge as records and physical evidence are reviewed.
