Mims, FL (June 9, 2026) – One person died, and another was seriously injured following a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday morning, June 9,  at the intersection of State Road 46 and Morgan Alderman Rd in Volusia County.

The wreck occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. According to investigators, a 2026 Ford Explorer and a 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander were involved in the crash. The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 36-year-old Lake Mary man, was not injured and remained at the scene after the collision.

Troopers said the driver of the Mitsubishi Outlander was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger riding in the Outlander sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

As crews worked in the area, SR-46 was closed between South Jungle Rd and Hatbill Rd. The roadway closure remained in place while investigators gathered information and cleared the scene.

The identity of the deceased person had not been released as of Tuesday. Additional details about the crash were not immediately available, but investigators continue to examine what led to the fatal wreck.

Our heartfelt condolences are with the family and friends mourning this loss, and we hope for the recovery of the injured passenger.

What Factors Are Commonly Examined After a Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash?

When a fatal two-vehicle crash occurs, investigators typically review a wide range of evidence to better understand how the collision happened. This process usually begins with documenting vehicle positions, roadway markings, weather conditions, and any visible damage.

Physical evidence such as tire marks, debris patterns, and vehicle data can provide insight into speed, braking, and driver actions before contact occurred. Witness accounts may also help establish a timeline of events and clarify the movements of each vehicle.

In crashes involving serious injuries or loss of life, investigators frequently analyze whether visibility, traffic controls, roadway design, or mechanical issues contributed to the outcome. Medical findings and vehicle inspections may also become part of the review. Gathering this information helps create a clearer picture of the circumstances surrounding a serious roadway collision and may assist in determining contributing factors.
