Estero, FL (June 9, 2026) – A 67-year-old Naples woman lost her life following a traffic collision at the intersection of US 41 and Palma De Coco Dr in Estero on Monday afternoon, June 8.
According to investigators, the wreck occurred around 2:13 p.m. when a 35-year-old man identified as Ian Nabbs was driving a 2011 Ford truck northbound on US 41 in the right lane at a high rate of speed. At the same time, the Naples woman was operating a 2024 Ford Transit van and attempting to turn right onto northbound US 41 from Palma De Coco Dr.
Investigators said the front of the truck struck the left side of the van. The woman was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the initial contact, the truck also struck a 2018 Jeep traveling northbound in the left lane of US 41.
The Jeep driver, a 38-year-old Estero man, was reported to have minor injuries. Nabbs was also hurt and taken to a local hospital, where he was medically cleared. Troopers later arrested him on charges of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the woman’s family and friends during this difficult time.
How Speed and Impairment Can Increase the Risk of Serious Traffic Collisions
Speeding and impaired driving are two factors commonly linked to severe roadway crashes. Higher speeds reduce the amount of time drivers have to react to changing traffic conditions and can increase the force involved when vehicles make contact. This often raises the likelihood of serious injuries or fatalities.
Alcohol or drug impairment can also affect judgment, reaction time, coordination, and decision-making behind the wheel. Even small delays in recognizing hazards can make it more difficult to avoid another vehicle entering traffic or turning at an intersection.
When multiple vehicles are involved, investigators often review driver actions, roadway conditions, vehicle positions, and witness statements to determine how the sequence of events unfolded. Information gathered from these sources can help create a clearer picture of what occurred and why the outcome was so severe.
