Why Rural Highway Intersections Can Be Dangerous
Intersections on rural roads and highways can present serious risks when drivers fail to stop or misjudge crossing traffic. Vehicles traveling at higher speeds may have limited time to avoid a collision once another vehicle enters the intersection unexpectedly.
Crashes at these crossings can become especially severe when occupants are not properly restrained, increasing the chance of ejection during impact. Investigators examining serious intersection collisions often review traffic control signs, visibility, roadway speed, and occupant safety measures to determine how the sequence of events developed.
