Why Are Motorcycle Injuries More Severe Than Other Traffic Crashes?
Motorcycle riders have far less physical protection than occupants of passenger vehicles. Even when safety equipment such as helmets and protective clothing is used, riders remain exposed to direct contact with the roadway or other vehicles during a traffic crash.
The severity of injuries can depend on multiple factors, including speed, road conditions, visibility, and the angle at which the vehicles make contact. Intersections are frequently examined because they involve vehicles traveling in different directions and making turns within a confined space.
Medical evaluations after motorcycle-related collisions may focus on identifying injuries that may not be immediately visible. In some cases, symptoms can develop hours after the initial impact, making continued monitoring and follow-up care an important part of the recovery process.
