What Is Reviewed After a Centerline Crossing Crash?
Head-on collisions caused by a vehicle crossing into opposing traffic are among the most dangerous types of roadway crashes. The forces involved can be significant because vehicles traveling in opposite directions meet at combined speeds.
Investigators often examine roadway markings, vehicle positions, tire marks, and damage patterns to determine how the vehicles moved before contact. They may also review weather conditions, visibility, and driver actions.
Passenger protection systems, including seat belts and airbags, are designed to reduce injury severity during serious collisions. Medical evaluations can provide additional information about the types of harm caused by the crash.
Rural highways can present additional challenges due to higher speeds, fewer traffic controls, and long stretches of road where vehicles share the same lanes. These factors are often considered when reviewing serious roadway collisions.
