Syracuse, NY (June 27, 2026) – One person lost their life after a house fire at 2407 South State Street in Syracuse on Thursday morning. The fire was reported at about 9:17 a.m.
Emergency units arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. Reports indicated someone was trapped on the second floor. Crews entered through a second-story window and found the deceased in a hallway. The person’s identity has not yet been released.
Other residents safely made it out of the home. The building was believed to be operating as a rooming house, with separate rooms rented to multiple occupants, making it more difficult to account for everyone. The fire was brought under control in less than 10 minutes, but the structure sustained significant damage from fire, smoke, and water. Displaced residents are receiving temporary assistance.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
